Email and Web Analytics

If you are watching your web site traffic and browser behavior closely, you will likely be using a form of web analytics package.  They range from very complex dashboards to simple traffic meters.  The data is collected by a piece of code you put on every page a user may visit and you can track the way the user interacts with every page.

Wouldn’t it be great to do this with your email campaigns?  You can.

If you are using an email marketing service, like Swiftpage, you will be given the same type of reporting you would receive from a web analytics package and more because you know exactly what person is doing what!  Not just the ip address of the person.  You will instantly know that Jane Doe opened your email, how many times, and exactly what links she clicked on.

If you are not using someone like Swiftpage, but are tracking your web traffic, put the same code snippet that you have on each page into the actual HTML of the email.  It will track the email exactly like it would a webpage.  There are many things an email marketing service can provide to you that you will not be able to manage without one, but you can make a quick analytics fix with this method.
