Don’t Pull a Kanye

Kanye

By now everyone has heard about Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs.  It is all over the place – how could you possibly miss it?  Here is one of my favorite articles published about the incident by mashable:

Top 10 Kanye West Interruption Parodies – http://mashable.com/2009/09/15/kanye-west-parodies/

What is the point of me directing you to this very entertaining article?  We can all learn from Kanye West.  Think before you act!  Sure – a mistake I make will not receive as much attention as Kanye West (or at least I hope not).  But a mistake could affect the way I do business and the connections I have made over time.

A couple examples of email marketing mistakes:

–          Sending out an email with an attempt (and failure) at using mail merge.  The email comes out as Dear [First Name].  I have recently read a tweet about an email a person had received from an email marketing company with this mistake.  That is a mistake that could bring down your reputation majorly, especially if you work for an email based company.

–          Not checking over everything.  I have also read stories about inside documents being released to outside sources.  Depending on the document released, this could pretty much destroy a business.  I don’t think you want to be responsible for this large load to explain to the boss.

–          Not taking responsibility for your actions.  If a mistake happens during the email marketing process, please don’t shrug it off and expect it to pass by.  Take responsibility and acknowledge the situation.  Your clients will be more likely to move on from the situation if you apologize for your unfortunate situation.

Don’t pull a Kanye!  Think before you act.  Have a great weekend 🙂
