FAQ Friday: How do I add an attachment to my email?

The traditional attachment and paper clip icons that you may be used to are done a little differently in Swiftpage for tracking and functionality purposes. Instead of doing a word document or image as an attachment, we do Portable Document Formats, better known as PDFs. So, if you have a document you want to attach and track whether or not it was clicked on, we allow you to essentially attach a PDF that can be accessed by your recipients by clicking on a piece of linked text or a linked image in your email.  The whole idea is that you will now be able to track every interaction with your PDFs attachments.

Click here for full details on uploading and linking a PDF file to your template.

If you are unable to upload your PDF you should first check its size. If your PDF is larger than 4MB, this is the problem. Swiftpage is not able to accept PDFs larger than 4MB.  Always make sure that the PDF is under 4MB and you should be able to upload it with no problems.

If you get a file load error or a page not found error and your PDF file is less than 4MB large, your Internet connection is probably timing out before the upload completes, in which case you should contact your network administrator.

Also make sure that you are not uploading a PDF that has the same file name as a different PDF that was uploaded previously into the template.  Swiftpage will not be able to recognize the file if it has the same name.

Finally, PDFs can only link to regular text, (i.e. if you are trying to link a PDF to the word “AT&T,” you wouldn’t be able to because although the ampersand looks like a normal character, it is actually a bit of code).  Lastly, be sure when you enter your text into the “Link to Text” window that you are not putting any extra spaces after your text, which can may cause the upload to fail.
