SwiftTip- Social Media Benefits and Advice

Even the most “technologically challenged” of folks are familiar with the buzz word, “social media.” It’s everywhere. It’s even become vital in places many would not have suspected it to, business. Unarguably, the use of social media in business can be very beneficial; leaving people no longer wondering if they should incorporate social media into their business, but how. We asked Missy Bergen, Swiftpage’s local expert about her thoughts on the benefits of incorporating social media into your business strategy. The following are her top seven benefits of joining the trend.

1)     “It’s cheaper than traditional media”

2)     “A proven way to create brand awareness and buzz”

3)     “Build your company’s reputation”

4)     “Build relationships with your current and potential customers”

5)     “Gain customer feedback and opinions”

6)     “Become the expert of your industry”

7)     “Drive traceable traffic to your website and/or blog”

Chances are, you are ready to get started or are already moving full steam ahead with this social stuff, so we asked Missy to offer some practical advice.

1)     “Create a specific plan. It needs to include details such as your objectives, what your prospective client base is, and the best ways to measure your successes.”

2)     “Encourage two-way conversation, don’t be the only one talking and learn to be a good listener.”

3)     “Share information that is relevant to your fans and connections and be sure to ask them questions.”

4)     “When getting started, try to dedicate around 15-30 minutes throughout the day (3-5 days a week) to engage in your social media outlets.”

5)     “Include links to your Social Media outlets tastefully on your website, in email newsletters and even your email signature.”

6)     “Don’t be pushy or focused on just trying to sell your product and your service.” Just like at a social gathering, nobody likes a “Me Monster.”
