An Intro to FourSquare from the Former Mayor of Swiftpage

foursquare is one of the newest players on the Social Media team. foursquare.com says, “foursquare makes the real world easier to use. We build tools that help you keep up with friends, discover what’s nearby, save money and unlock deals. Whether you’re setting off on a trip around the world, coordinating a night out with friends, or trying to pick out the best dish at your local restaurant, foursquare is the perfect companion.”

As one of the members of the Swiftpage team who uses foursquare the most, I can offer a little insight into why your business might want to jump on board with foursquare and why you might want to use it yourself. I was the mayor of Swiftpage for about 150 check-ins, but Dan has since ousted me as mayor!

There are a few aspects of Foursquare that I enjoy. The first and foremost is deals. I am always looking for a deal, and often receive drink or food specials when checking into restaurants. Nothing better than getting a free something at check-in… a free beer, chips and salsa or 10% off coupon at check-in will keep your customer’s coming back for more.

Earning badges is another fun and valuable part of foursquare. I’m pretty much addicted to games of any type, and foursquare lets you make a game out of going anywhere, whether it’s your first time at that new restaurant down the street, or your tenth trip to the grocery store this week. I appreciate companies that engage their followers by creating tips at check-in locations and creating badges to earn.

Foursquare’s social interaction is great too. It’s fun to see where my friends are eating and playing and foursquare can update my Facebook page for me when I’ve been some place extra exciting.

The companies that I follow are experts in areas of interest. I like following companies like Zagat and Epicuriuos because they give great foodie type tips and badges based on check-ins to local restaurants and discounts off of their membership..
