Trend to Try: Symbols in Email Subject Lines

Symbols in email subject lines have been popping up more and more over the past view weeks. We wrote about them a while ago and since then they seem to have become the next big thing in email. Our staff has mixed reviews on their feeling about symbols… some love them (like me), some think it makes their emails look spammier, and some are indifferent.

Zulily Loves Pinterest iPhoneAs of yet, symbols do not seem to be triggering spam filters any more than regular subject lines. If you want to try them out for yourself, you need to copy and paste the symbol of your choice into your subject line. Here is a great source to find a variety of symbols. As always, be sure to test your email in a variety of email clients to see how it holds up. If a symbol is not supported by an email client or on a device, your recipients will see a ☐. On the other hand, some email clients and devices show emoji characters which, in my humble opinion, make the email oh so fun!

I asked our staff to share some email subject lines they have seen recently that use symbols to give you some inspiration for your own. Enjoy!
