With an estimated 31 million bloggers (source), there are a lot of people out there creating content on a regular basis. Blogs offer wonderful insight into various industries, up-to-date information and how-tos on almost any topic. I personally follow over 100 blogs and find some of my best information and ideas on the blogs I follow.
Here are a few ways you can follow a blog:
Option 1: Via Email
Most blogs offer a way to follow them via email. Each time they publish a new post, you receive an email with the post included. On our blog you can sign up by inputting your email on the top right hand column of or by clicking the +Follow button on the bottom right of any screen. Many other blogs use this same system to allow followers to subscribe.
Option 2: Via a Subscription/Reader Service
My personal favorite blog following method is using a subscription service such as Google Reader. If you have a Google account, you already have access to Google Reader. I simply copy and paste the link of any blog I’d like to follow into the subscription box on my Google Reader and the blog is added to my feed. Some blogs also allow you to click a button to add their blog to a subscription service. I like this method because it allows me to scroll through by blog roll on a daily basis to see what’s new. Other popular readers include Bloglines and FeedReader.
Option 3: Via Social Media
Most bloggers have accounts on the major social networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and most use social networks to share their posts. While the other 2 methods offer better ways to stay on top of blog posts, social media may be better for someone who doesn’t check in often on blogs. Instead of following the actual blog via email or adding the blog to a reader, follow your favorite bloggers social accounts. You will see their quips about their posts and can read them when you feel inclined. Case in point, we post our blogs daily to our Facebook and Twitter accounts.
