28 Days of Email Inspiration: Day 9

We love email…and we love sharing our passion with you. During the month of February aka the “month of love”, we will be featuring one email a day with tips, commentary and more from industry experts.

28Days_Day9_huckberryDay 9: Huckberry Inspires Us to Use Unique Content and Subject Lines to Increase Opens

Subject Line: High tech paper? Word.
Industry: Retail, Online Shopping
Type of Email: Sales

I don’t think there are too many emails out there that would have bacon-wrapped bottles, bear-hunting suits, and knitwear all in the same email. Emails from Huckberry combine unique gear and stories targeting men in a sporadic yet organized manner.

“Huckberry is a bi-weekly web magazine that brings you unique apparel and gear at members-only prices along with the stories behind the products. Our emails are awesome and infrequent.”

The tagline from their website promises and delivers. They are upfront about their offerings and proud of it. Their Facebook page states, “Huckberry is like your favorite store, your grandpa’s favorite store, and your favorite magazine all rolled into one”, which is the exact atmosphere of their emails.

I originally stumbled upon the site from a blog I was reading about unique gifts for men around the holidays. I discovered after the first couple emails that while I occasionally buy, I will definitely continue opening their emails. What I enjoy most about the emails are the unique subject lines and topics – they are certainly never dull.

See a selection of their subject lines below and explore the bizarre fusion of content in this email for yourself.

  1. The subject line of the Huckberry email from today was “Octopus Tea. Lobster Coffee.”. Can you beat that one?
