FAQ Friday: Where can I get free images for my emails?

The best place for stock images is a stock photo site such as istock.com or photos.com. However, we know it’s not always in the budget to pay for images for your emails. So, I asked all of our designers in the office to share their favorite sites to find free images when budgets are tight.

One important note: Google images are not free images! 9 times out of 10 those images are copyrighted and you need to get permission from the owner of the image to use them.

So what about those free images? The sites below generally don’t require any permission for commercial use, but sometimes you will need to sign up for a free account. Also pay attention to the specific license requirements for each image to make sure the image is free for your intended purpose.

PolaroidStock Photos:

The Best: pixabay.com  & morguefile.com
Mid-range: public-domain-image.com & www.sxc.hu
Pretty Limited: myfreedigitalphotos.com
Vintage Photos: vintagepixels.com

Imagery and Icons:
iconfinder.com
www.sxc.hu

  1. The information provided through this article is really very informative and helpful. Thanks for sharing.

  2. This is a very useful resource, thank you. However, vintagepixels leads me to a ‘This page can’t be displayed’. Is the address wrong, has the site closed down, or is it just my computer?

    • Looks like you might be right. Bummer! Well, hopefully you found some more useful resources. Thanks for the comment!
