Marketing Moment: Increase Your Opens By Using ALT Text

I received this email from Jib Jab a few weeks ago. Jib Jab makes funny email cards and videos using faces of your friends and family. In this email, they are adverstising their celebratory ecards. What really grabbed me about this email was the ALT text they used on their images. “Pssst… Enable your images!” The ALT text made me smile, laugh and was the single factor which caused me to download their images. Remember, email service providers use images to track opens no images downloaded = no opens.

Jib Jab Email No Images

After I downloaded the images, the email below is what I saw. Sure, it’s not the most impressive email ever, but I was still so amused by the ALT text that I went ahead and clicked through to see the cards. If you are using an HTML template, make the most of your ALT text and watch your opens go up. Too often I see emails where the ALT text only describes the image. Instead, use the ALT text to describe the message and maybe make your recipients laugh a little too!Jib Jab Email
