Marketing Moment: Saying “Welcome”

My husband and I recently moved all of our bank accounts to a different bank. We did a lot of research, picked the best bank for us and made the move. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call from the bank about a week after the switch. The representative simply asked how our transfer was going and if we had any questions on their products or services.

What really stood out to me was the lack of a sales pitch. They could have easily tried to sell me on their insurance or credit cards, but they didn’t. The call was truly just a check-in and a welcome to the bank. I felt like they truly valued our business and felt welcome to the new bank. When I have gotten similar calls from other companies in the past, there was always a pitch to upgrade or buy more. The feeling I was left with was not the same.

How can we apply something similar to our companies? It’s easy. Make a true effort of making new or prospective customers feel welcome. Have your team reach out with a phone call or email. Leave out any language about purchasing. By making customers feel welcome, they will see your brand as a brand they want to be a part of and your brand affinity will grow and deepen.
